This study examines Chanakya's administrative philosophy and assesses its long-term influence on the evolution of governance across successive Indian kingdoms.. Traditionally, Chanakya is also known as Kautilya or Vishnu Gupta. His famous book, ‘the Arthashastra ’, is widely regarded as one of the most comprehensive treatises on ancient Indian statecraft . Although composed in the context of the Mauryan Empire during the fourth century BCE, its administrative ideas have often been associated with later traditions of governance in the Indian subcontinent.
